I've been a serial alt-hopper for what seems like too long, though I've finally made the decision to buckle down and stick with Nyoka. She's an Undead Warlock, currently level 52 on Shadowsong, and as she's veering towards end-game, I figured it was time I'd sit and think about her end-game prospects.

Prior to the decision of making Nyoka my main, I had been playing as Alliance on Shadowsong. That's a server where my boyfriend knew the GM of a casual and friendly raiding guild, and as he was ensured a spot in raiding whenever he wanted, the same went for me. I realize there is no chance of that happening in another guild, but I'm just wondering what the chances are of a decent, friendly raiding guild recruiting someone who has no end-game experience to speak of.

I suppose what I'm really asking are two questions-
1. How did you find (and get into) the raiding guild you're in?
2. Are any Horde raiding guilds recruiting? Do you make allowances for the less-experienced players who are willing to learn?

I've accepted that the chances of me finding such a guild on Darkmoon Faire is rather slim, what with it being a roleplaying server and all. I'm more than willing to transfer when Nyoka is ready, and when I have at least a semi-secured position in a raiding guild somewhere else.

Edit: My boyfriend and I have come to the decision that we will stay on Shadowsong, at least until we've both gathered more experience. Thank you for the replies, though. :)

Welcome to the community :)

Shadowsong- I have recently been in contact with the GM of Rage-Redux, wouldn't be that guild would it?

I think there's plenty of nice guilds around who would want to give you a chance, but it depends on what level of raiding you're looking for. You'd probably want a guild that is starting with Kara or trying to get a second group for Gruul's. It would help a lot if you're attuned to Kara before applying as it will make you more independant and show new guilds that you're willing to do your best.

My answers to your questions:
1. I joined it in april 2005 and became guildleader in june 2005, but we're casual/raiding, not really raiding.
2. I'm sure there's horde guilds recruiting on your server but best bet is to check the realm forums as I'm not sure there are many euro players in this community :)

Thank you!

I wasn't a member of Rage-Redux, no. I was a member of Divine Avengers, but when they merged with the other guild, I joined The Looney Toons with my boyfriend's friends from Divine.

Attunement is something which seems to be difficult to do independently, but if it will give me a higher chance of getting into a nice guild, I'm willing to do that. It's just a case of getting lucky with PUGs I guess. ;)

In response to your answer to 2 (how odd did that sound?), that's actually surprising - given that the community is named wow_europe after all. ^_^

Now you made me curious. Are you at liberty to say why you've been talking to Mr. Dobseh? (I'm an officer in RR but I miss out on a lot of what's going on due to school taking a lot of time as of late.)

Oh, we were just exchanging guild master woes in regards to Karazhan :) How to handle certain things, how to prevent drama, how to avoid hurting people's feelings :) He contacted me to gain information a system my guild (www.lemmingsofthelight.net) uses to determine who'se turn it is to go to Karazhan, but it just became a friendly e-mail exchange. :)

Ah! Yeah, there'd be a lot of guild master woes to exchange on that topic, especially when melee DPS seems to take it as a personal affront that they're useless for many bosses due to encounter mechanics -- I try to stay out of the raid organization bits for a reason. Also: I like you guys's webpage. :D

hmm I don't know how personally they take it - but I think most if not all are doable with melee :) ofc they might not top all the dps charts, but.. how far are you guys now? I really love the Aran fight and its melee friendly I think :)
Anyway its not an easy task for guildleaders of casual guilds to manouever the guild through all the potential drama pitholes, but as far as I can tell your GL has the heart in the right place :)

You're welcome to hang out on our website btw :)

People whine about being swapped out for Curator and Maiden, mostly. And we've had people get pissy about not being allowed to come on a raid when they hadn't installed the mandatory mods. Things like that.

We've got everything up through Curator, plus Chess, down. Maiden is kind of hit-and-miss, depending on whether dispell decides to bug that night or not. (I have issues with Holy Fire ticking after it's been dispelled.) Currently I believe we're working on Illhoof -- we gave Aran a miss because certain priests *cough*me*cough* can't seem to keep track of the stupid blizzard, and because we can't get those bloody elementals under control. Being de-sheeped by elementals is a Bad Thing.

Hmm yes swapping people out against their cooperation can really make drama. I mostly try to motivate people to work on their gear and take responsibility when they have less gear than is recommended (as we have listed on our website), so they know that there is a chance they will be held accountable when they pose a risk to the rest of the group.

I've never heard of the holy fire bug, but I always do have issues despelling it off myself. For Aran having the offtank and a warlock and people who can fear, is very useful during the elemental stage. We now use the following tactic: we only disrupt arcane bolts, so Aran's mana runs out faster; around 45% (with dot classes) or 40% (with just instant dpsers) we call a DPS off, wait until he does polymorph, and then dps him down to 35% (when the elementals arrive). It has made the whole fight a lot less hectic.
My guildie/officer Neti always uploads the run's combatlog to wow webstats, which offers an overview of who triggered explosion as well! (Which is the effect that hits you when you move during flame wreath).

I hope that can help you a bit :)

I'm an officer in such a "raiding" guild on Shadowsong (doubt it's the same one, though), which I found through the realm forum in April or May this year. We generally prefer to think of ourselves as a casual-friendly guild that happens to do raiding, rather than a raiding guild that happens to be casual.

When I was looking for a guild for my tauren druid (which is how I found Rage Redux and ended up switching factions, not that it's been a huge loss), I found that on Shadowsong, most of the so-called casual raiding guilds still have attendance requirements and gear requirements, which sits badly with me. Hive might be recruiting, check the guild homepage link thread on the realm forum.
